Phenol (English: Phenol or phenyl hydroxide, commonly known as carbolic acid), defined as C6H6O, is mainly produced by the oxidation and decomposition of isopropylbenzene. It is also used as a solvent and disinfectant.
Phenol is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H5OH. A small portion of phenol exposed to air is oxidized by oxygen to quinones and turns pink. When encountering trivalent iron ions that turn purple, this method is usually used to test phenol.
