1. Project Overview


A specialized service provider for the Oil & Gas industry required an advanced surface treatment solution to handle two distinct types of high-strength components:

Workpiece A (Drill Collars): Long, thick-walled heavy-duty tubular or solid metal pipes.

Both components require thorough surface cleaning to remove heat-treat scale, rust, and contaminants before Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and premium protective coating.


2. The Challenge


The client’s previous manual blasting process faced several critical issues:

Labor Intensity: The heavy weight and length of drill collars made manual handling and 360-degree blasting extremely difficult and dangerous.

Hardness Obstacle: The extreme hardness of drill bits meant manual blasting often failed to achieve the required surface profile (anchorage pattern) consistently.

Inspection Standards: Oilfield tools require a perfectly clean surface for NDT to detect micro-cracks. Inconsistent manual cleaning led to high rejection rates during inspection.
