Introduction

The Mindray MN2880 is a fully automated, integrated nucleic acid extraction and real-time PCR analysis system—a molecular all-in-one instrument designed to bring molecular diagnostics from specialized reference laboratories into routine clinical applications.

Traditional molecular testing workflows are cumbersome and involve numerous steps—sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, PCR reaction system construction, and amplification are typically performed by trained technicians in different rooms, taking over three hours in total. The MN2880 integrates the entire workflow into a single benchtop instrument. From loading the original sample tubes to reporting the final results, all steps are completed automatically by the instrument, requiring no human intervention.

Functions

The MN2880 is the industry’s first molecular diagnostic solution that completes the entire testing workflow with a single operation. The operator simply loads primary sample tubes into the system and presses start the instrument handles nucleic acid extraction, PCR setup, amplification, and result reporting automatically. This reduces hands‑on operating time by 76%.

The system produces the first result in 40 minutes , a significant improvement over the 3+ hours typical of conventional molecular workflows. After that, it continues to deliver six respiratory nucleic acid results every six minutes. Over an eight‑hour shift, the system can process up to 480 tests. This combination of speed and throughput makes it suitable for both stat testing and batch screening.

Site preparation

1. Place the system on a stable, level benchtop with adequate clearance for ventilation and service access.

2. Ensure the environment meets the specified operating temperature, humidity, and power requirements.

3. The system’s compact footprint (≤0.72 m²) allows installation in standard laboratory bench spaces

Routine operation

1. Load primary sample tubes into the designated sample loading area.

2. Load the appropriate PCR reagent kit and consumables (extraction plates, PCR tubes, tips) as specified for the test.

3. Start the run via the system’s touchscreen interface.

4. The system automatically processes samples through nucleic acid extraction, PCR setup, amplification, and result analysis.

5. Results are displayed on the system screen and can be exported to the laboratory information system.
