Deep Drawing Die Manufacturing Capability
METS provides a complete tooling development process from part analysis to final die approval.
1. Product & DFM Analysis
Before manufacturing the die, our engineers review the customer's
automotive component drawing to evaluate whether the proposed
geometry is suitable for deep drawing.
The review can include:
- Material selection
- Sheet thickness
- Drawing depth
- Draw ratio
- Corner radius
- Wall thickness
- Punch and die clearance
- Blank size
- Blank-holder requirements
- Material flow
- Trimming allowance
- Piercing requirements
- Forming sequence
- Press capacity
For automotive components with deep or complex geometries, the
drawing process may require multiple forming stages rather than a
single deep-drawing operation.
2. Custom Die Design
Based on the DFM analysis, METS develops a customized die structure
according to the customer's part geometry and production
requirements.
Depending on the component, the tooling may integrate:
Drawing -> Redrawing -> Forming -> Trimming -> Piercing
-> Calibration
This integrated approach can reduce the number of separate
manufacturing operations and improve production consistency.
METS's existing deep-drawing tooling range includes progressive
drawing dies, progressive tools, stamping forming dies, compound
dies, and automotive applications.
3. Precision Tooling Manufacturing
METS uses CNC machining, grinding, EDM, and wire EDM processes to
manufacture critical die components.
The tooling material can be selected according to:
- Material being formed
- Production volume
- Required die life
- Forming pressure
- Component geometry
- Wear resistance
- Required dimensional accuracy
Common tooling materials include DC53, D2, SKD11, SKH-9, SKH-51, YG15, and YG20. Existing METS deep drawing tooling specifications list these
materials for different die applications.
4. Trial Stamping & Tool Adjustment
After die assembly, METS performs trial stamping to verify:
- Component dimensions
- Drawing depth
- Wall shape
- Corner radius
- Wrinkle formation
- Material thinning
- Cracking
- Burrs
- Trimming accuracy
- Piercing position
- Part release
- Overall forming stability
If necessary, the tooling is adjusted according to trial results
before customer approval.
METS's established tooling workflow includes product design review, DFM, mould design approval, mould making,
trial samples, mould modification, sample approval, and final
delivery.
