The TRICONEX 4119A is an Enhanced Intelligent Communication Module (EICM), an essential communication component in the Tricon Safety Instrumented System (SIS). This module is specifically designed for the Tricon SIS and is primarily used to facilitate data communication between Tricon controllers and external devices.
This module is a standard communication module for the Tricon v9, v10, and Trident platforms and meets the SIL 3 safety level requirements of the IEC 61508 standard. At a certain refinery, the 4119A module was installed in a logic slot on the main rack and connected via an RS-485 interface to the TriStation 1131 engineering station in the central control room. It is responsible for uploading the status of thousands of I/O points on the field to the control system in real time.
The 4119A does not support the hot-spare feature. However, a faulty 4119A module can be replaced while the controller is online, without the need for downtime.
A single Tricon system supports up to 2 4119A modules, which must be installed in the same logical slot.
The four serial ports of the 4119A support a combined data rate of 57.6 kbps. Each port can be independently configured to 1200, 2400, 9600, or 19200 bps.
