Overview

Product Introduction

IEMMU01 is the rear-mount module mounting unit used in ABB Bailey INFI 90 cabinet architecture. It provides the mechanical housing and the internal power, status, communication and signal connections needed by the installed power and process modules.

Unlike an active controller module, the mounting unit is infrastructure. Replacement planning must account for cabinet depth, rear access, bus bars, wiring harnesses, module positions and the exact project backplane arrangement.

System fit

Compatibility & Cabinet Configuration

01

The AC Modular Power System instruction identifies IEMMU01 as the rear-mount housing and IEMMU02 as a front-mount unit with the same general function for smaller cabinets.

02

This functional similarity is not a direct mechanical interchange. Orientation, cabinet depth, access, bus bars, wiring and mounting hardware differ by cabinet design.

03

ABB evolution planning for later power systems is a system-level migration. It does not support replacing only the mounting unit without an engineered cabinet plan.

04

Maintenance context

Applications & Fault Scenarios

Damaged module connector

A backplane or connector is burnt, cracked or mechanically loose after a module or power fault.

Intermittent multi-module alarms

Several unrelated modules reset together, directing attention to shared buses, connectors or mounting-unit wiring.

Cabinet rebuild

A planned refurbishment must preserve module positions, cable reach, rear access and bus-bar clearances.

Orientation mismatch

A front-mount unit is proposed for a rear-access cabinet without an engineered mechanical and wiring conversion.

05

Field practice

Cabinet Survey, Rebuild & Acceptance

Map the installed assembly

Record every module position, blank, keying feature, harness, bus bar, earth bond and connector before dismantling. Use a position-by-position photo record.

Inspect shared power paths

Discoloration, heat damage or repeated resets across multiple modules can indicate a common bus or connector problem. Correct the initiating fault before installing replacement hardware.

Plan rear access

The 317.5 mm depth does not include every project cable allowance. Confirm cabinet clearance, bend radius, service access and segregation against the original mechanical drawing.

Commission by zones

After rebuilding, verify protective earth and unloaded bus conditions, then restore modules in a controlled sequence and test communications, I/O and alarms.

Product-specific answers

FAQ

What is the function of IEMMU01?

It is the rear-mount housing and interconnection structure for installed modules, carrying the documented power buses and project signal or communication connections.

Is IEMMU01 an active controller module?

No. It is cabinet infrastructure. Faults can still affect many active modules because they share its power and connection paths.

Is IEMMU01 directly interchangeable with IEMMU02?

No direct interchange is stated. The latter is the front-mount arrangement; cabinet orientation, depth, wiring, bus bars and access must be engineered.

What should be documented before replacing IEMMU01?

Capture the module map, keying, harness and cable labels, bus bars, earth bonds, rear clearances, hardware and every connector position.

How should an IEMMU01 cabinet be checked after rebuild?

Verify earth and power buses first, then restore modules in a controlled sequence and test communications, I/O, alarms and redundant functions.

What should an IEMMU01 RFQ contain?

Provide the complete nameplate and revision, cabinet drawing or photos, module layout, power-system type, quantity, destination and required date.
