This customizable knife coating production line is a continuous or intermittent coating system that uses a precisely controlled doctor blade to apply uniform layers of liquid coatings onto flexible or rigid substrates. Available in roll-to-roll continuous production, laboratory R&D, and high-precision intermittent configurations.
The system is fully customizable in coating width, drying length, coating method (comma blade / doctor blade / rod coating), and automation level. The coating thickness is controlled by the precise gap between the blade and the substrate or backing roll, enabling wet film thicknesses from 5 µm to several hundred microns with exceptional uniformity (up to ±1-2 µm accuracy).
Working principle: The coating material is supplied to the substrate surface, and the doctor blade (comma blade or scraper) meters the excess coating to leave a precisely controlled wet film thickness. The coated substrate then passes through drying ovens where solvents are evaporated or resins are cured. This method is widely used in lithium-ion battery electrode manufacturing, adhesive tape production, and functional film coating.
