The IR-505M is a board level iris capture module rather than a
finished camera. It is designed for product teams that already own
the enclosure, the user interface and the application software, and
simply need a reliable 5MP iris engine that can be screwed into an
existing mechanical design. The whole imaging chain, sensor, lens
mount, NIR illuminator driver and UVC bridge, fits on a 32 x 32mm
four-layer PCB with four M2 mounting bosses and a single 5V input.
Because the module speaks standard UVC, it appears as a camera to
Windows, Linux and Android hosts with no driver installation, which
means an integration team can prototype in an afternoon and move to
certification without rewriting their capture stack. Where deeper
control is required, an optional SDK exposes exposure locking,
illuminator timing, region of interest cropping and raw frame
access, and a hardware trigger line lets the host fire a capture in
exact sync with a card reader, a turnstile beam or an application
prompt.
Key Features- 32 x 32mm board footprint: four-layer PCB with M2 bosses and a 5V single rail input, sized to
drop into kiosk bezels, ATM fascias and handheld enrolment devices
that have no room for a cased camera.
- Interchangeable M12 lens options: 6mm, 8mm and 12mm focal lengths cover wide desk capture through to
narrow long-range capture, so one board design serves several
product variants without a redesign.
- Hardware illuminator sync: a dedicated strobe output drives an external 850nm LED ring in
step with the sensor exposure window, keeping power draw and heat
low in sealed enclosures.
- Trigger and GPIO control: an opto-isolated trigger input accepts a 3.3V to 24V pulse from a
host controller, and status lines report capture-ready and
illumination-active states to the main board.
- Low thermal load: typical consumption is 1.6W with illumination active and 0.9W
idle, which keeps the module inside the thermal budget of fanless
terminals.
- SDK and raw access: C library with Python binding supports frame grab, quality
metrics, ROI cropping and template generation, while UVC mode
remains available as a fallback for third-party software.
- Mechanical flexibility: a 150mm shielded FPC option moves the sensor head away from the
main board, useful when the optical axis has to sit behind a tilted
glass panel.

ApplicationsThe module is intended for embedding rather than retail display.
Common designs include self-service kiosks for telecom
registration, ATM and cash recycler facial-iris identification,
bank branch queue terminals, border and immigration pre-screening
desks, hospital patient check-in stations, workplace attendance
terminals that combine card and iris, and handheld enrolment units
carried to remote villages. It also fits access controller projects
where the iris camera must sit inside an existing vandal-resistant
housing and report through the controller rather than a PC. Because
the board is class compliant, the same hardware can ship in a
Windows-based kiosk and an Android-based terminal with no firmware
change, which shortens the certification cycle for teams building a
product family.
Packaging and Quality AssuranceModules are packed in ESD trays of 20 pieces, sealed in moisture
barrier bags with a desiccant, and shipped 100 pieces per carton at
approximately 6kg gross weight. Each board passes a 24 hour power
cycle test, an illuminator strobe endurance run of 200000 cycles,
and a lens focus verification against a target chart before
packing. Boards are CE and RoHS compliant. A 12 month warranty
applies to the sensor and bridge controller. For OEM customers,
firmware splash screen, UVC descriptor naming, trigger polarity,
lens selection and FPC length can all be customised, and a
development kit with a breakout board, LED ring and reference
application source is available for evaluation. Contact us with
your enclosure drawing and host platform so we can confirm the
optical axis and mounting clearance before you commit to tooling.
