A robotic vacuum cleaner is a representative product of the smart
cleaning appliance category. Equipped with autonomous navigation,
path planning and self-recharging capabilities, it replaces manual
labour in sweeping, vacuuming and mopping floors. As living
standards rise in China and the smart-home ecosystem matures, a
product once sold mainly in European and North American markets is
now entering Chinese households at an accelerating pace, with
market penetration growing year by year.
At the same time, consumers are paying ever closer attention to
product safety and reliability. Robotic vacuum cleaners fall within
the scope of China Compulsory Product Certification (CCC) — classified under the "Household and Similar Electrical
Appliances" category, specifically the vacuum cleaner product line.
Such products must be tested by a qualified third-party laboratory
against the applicable national standards and obtain compulsory
certification before they can be placed on the market. Compliance
testing is therefore both a statutory market-access requirement and
the foundation on which a manufacturer builds its quality
reputation.
Standard / Rule No. | Title | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CNCA-01C-016:2010 | Implementation Rules for Compulsory Certification of Electric and Electronic Products — Household and Similar Electrical Appliances | The governing document for CCC certification |
| GB/T 4706.1—2024 | Household and Similar Electrical Appliances — Safety — Part 1: General Requirements | Replaces GB 4706.1—2005; effective 1 August 2026 |
| GB/T 4706.7—2024 | Household and Similar Electrical Appliances — Safety — Part 7: Particular Requirements for Vacuum Cleaners and Water-Suction Cleaning Appliances | Replaces GB 4706.7—2014 (which was withdrawn on 1 August 2026); identical adoption of IEC 60335-2-2 |
Robotic vacuum cleaners incorporate self-propelled movement, a docking station and motorized cleaning heads. Clauses in GB/T 4706.7 addressing "battery-powered automatic cleaners" and "docking stations" are therefore key test items; manufacturers should verify these before submitting samples.

| GB/T 39560 series (.1 / .2 / .301 / .4 / .5 / .6 / .701 / .702) | Determination of Certain Substances in Electrotechnical Products | Since 1 March 2024, the test methods for China RoHS conformity assessment have been changed from GB/T 26125—2011 to this series |
| GB/T 26572—2011 and its amendments | Requirements of Concentration Limits for Certain Restricted Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products | Basis for limit determination; to be used together with the latest amendment |

|---|---|
| GB/T 22084.1—2008 | Portable sealed single cells — cadmium-nickel batteries |
| GB/T 22084.2—2024 | Portable sealed secondary cells and batteries — nickel-metal hydride batteries (replaces GB/T 22084.2—2008) |
| GB/T 18287—2013 | General specification of lithium-ion cells and batteries for mobile phones |
| GB 31241—2022 | Safety Technical Specification for Lithium-Ion Cells and Batteries Used in Portable Electronic Devices — mandatory safety requirements for lithium-ion batteries |
QB/T 4833—2023 Household and Similar Cleaning Robots is the industry reference for evaluating the performance of
robotic vacuum cleaners. It covers dust removal efficiency,
coverage rate, minimum passable gap and height, threshold-crossing
capability, run time on a single charge, operating noise and other
metrics — suitable for product benchmarking and for substantiating
performance claims.

(B) Environmental item
(C) Battery items
Practical note: in recent supervision spot-checks of robotic vacuum cleaners conducted by market regulators, "marking and instructions" and "construction" have been the most frequent non-conformities — the former usually involving missing nameplate information or incomplete warnings, the latter usually involving the absence of a boundary-sensing (anti-fall) device. A targeted self-check before submission can significantly reduce the cost of rework.
