Who We Are
Olycom is a Shenzhen-based manufacturer of fiber optic transmission
and industrial Ethernet equipment. We were founded in 2003 with a
straightforward goal: build hardware that network engineers and
system integrators can actually rely on, at a price point that
makes projects viable.
Over the past two decades, that focus hasn't changed. What has
changed is the scale. What started as a small team producing PDH
video converters and fiber modems has grown into a full-spectrum
manufacturer with products deployed across more than 120 countries,
a product line that spans fiber media conversion, industrial
switching, PoE power delivery, WDM systems, HD video transmission,
and optical cable monitoring, and a manufacturing operation that
has earned certification from China's telecom and public security
regulators, the EU's CE and RoHS frameworks, and ISO 9001 quality
management standards.
We design and manufacture everything in-house. That's not a
marketing line — it's a deliberate choice that lets us maintain
direct control over component sourcing, production quality, and
product evolution. When a customer reports a field issue, we're
talking to the engineers who designed the product, not a support
team reading from a troubleshooting script. When a market need
emerges — higher PoE power budgets, bypass protection for
industrial fiber links, optical monitoring for aging fiber plants —
we can move on it without waiting for a third-party ODM to catch
up.
Our mission is straightforward: connect people faster and more
reliably over longer distances. Every product decision, every
engineering tradeoff, and every support interaction runs through
that filter.
What We Do
Olycom's product line covers the full stack of fiber optic
connectivity and industrial Ethernet infrastructure. We build for
three distinct environments: commercial and enterprise networks,
telecom and carrier deployments, and industrial and outdoor
installations where standard commercial hardware isn't rated to
survive.
Fiber Media Converters
Media converters are where Olycom started, and it remains one of
our strongest product categories. Our converters bridge fiber and
copper Ethernet seamlessly, enabling fiber runs in networks where
full fiber end-to-end isn't practical or cost-effective. We offer
single-mode and multimode variants, standalone and rack-mount
chassis configurations, and models supporting fast Ethernet through
to Gigabit speeds. All units are designed for continuous 24/7
operation in real-world conditions — not just lab benchmarks.
Industrial Ethernet Switches
Our industrial Ethernet switches are built for environments that
would destroy standard commercial networking equipment. Temperature
extremes, vibration, dust, humidity, electrical interference — the
conditions that define factory automation, transportation systems,
outdoor infrastructure, and utility networks. These switches carry
IP40 protection ratings, CE and RoHS certifications, and come with
a 3-year warranty that reflects our confidence in how they're
built.
The managed switch variants support full Layer 2 functionality
including VLAN, RSTP, IGMP snooping, QoS, and port mirroring — the
features that network administrators need when managing complex
industrial topologies, not a stripped-down feature set that forces
compromises.
Industrial PoE Managed Switches
Power over Ethernet has become foundational infrastructure for IP
cameras, access points, VoIP phones, and an expanding range of edge
devices. Our industrial PoE managed switches support per-port power
delivery up to 90W under the IEEE 802.3bt standard — high enough to
power PTZ cameras, multi-radio access points, and other high-draw
devices that earlier PoE standards couldn't support.
The industrial form factor means these switches are deployable in
the same harsh environments as the rest of our industrial line,
making them a natural fit for outdoor surveillance installations,
transportation hubs, and smart city infrastructure projects where
the switch enclosure may be exposed to temperature swings,
moisture, and physical shock that indoor-rated equipment can't
handle.
SFP Transceivers
Our SFP transceiver lineup covers the standard single-mode and
multimode form factors at 100M, 1G, and 10G speeds, with options
for BiDi (single-fiber bidirectional) operation and extended
temperature ranges for industrial applications. We manufacture
these to standard MSA specifications, which means they're
compatible with switches and routers from all major vendors —
Cisco, Huawei, H3C, and others — without requiring proprietary
licensing or vendor lock-in.
CWDM and DWDM Devices
Wavelength-division multiplexing lets network operators carry
multiple independent channels of traffic over a single fiber pair,
dramatically increasing the capacity of existing fiber
infrastructure without the cost and disruption of laying new cable.
Our CWDM modules cover the standard 18-channel ITU grid, while our
DWDM line supports 40-channel and 80-channel configurations for
high-density metropolitan and long-haul applications.
For carriers, data center operators, and enterprise networks facing
capacity constraints on existing fiber routes, WDM is often the
most cost-effective path forward — and our passive WDM components
require no power and no configuration, which keeps both deployment
cost and operational overhead low.
Video Optical Converters
Our video optical converter range serves the CCTV and professional
video sectors, enabling high-definition video signals to be
transmitted over fiber at distances that coaxial or twisted-pair
cable can't support. We cover all the major HD formats — HDMI, SDI,
DVI, and VGA — as well as legacy analog video for systems that
haven't fully migrated to IP.
For security integrators running fiber backbone infrastructure to
IP camera systems, our converters provide a reliable, low-latency
transport layer that maintains signal integrity across long runs
without the compression artifacts, buffering delays, or packet loss
issues that can affect network-based video transport under load.
Optical Cable Monitoring Systems
Fiber optic cable plant is expensive to install and difficult to
diagnose when something goes wrong. Our optical cable monitoring
systems provide continuous, automated surveillance of fiber
infrastructure — detecting breaks, bends, connector degradation,
and other fault conditions in real time and pinpointing their
location along the cable route.
For telecom operators, utility companies, and any organization
running extensive fiber infrastructure, this kind of visibility
transforms fault response from a hours-long manual testing exercise
into a rapid, targeted intervention. The monitoring system logs
fault events, generates alerts, and provides historical data on
cable plant condition — giving operations teams the information
they need to manage infrastructure proactively rather than
reactively.
Bypass Fiber Switches
Network redundancy is straightforward to design on paper but harder
to execute in practice, particularly in industrial environments
where the switch or device protecting the network may itself be the
point of failure. Our industrial bypass fiber switch addresses this
directly: if the protected device fails or loses power, the bypass
switch automatically reroutes traffic around it, maintaining
network continuity without any manual intervention or
reconfiguration.
This is particularly valuable in ring topologies and linear
industrial networks where a single node failure can take down the
entire segment, and where the downtime cost — in a manufacturing
line, a traffic management system, or a utility network — far
exceeds the cost of the hardware protection.
Who We Work With
Olycom's customer base is broadly distributed across three
segments, each with distinct requirements and buying patterns.
Telecom Operators and Carriers
Carrier networks run on scale, standardization, and cost
discipline. Our fiber media converters, SFP transceivers, and WDM
systems are designed with these constraints in mind — compliant
with international standards, compatible with multi-vendor
environments, and priced to make large-volume deployments
economically viable. We've supplied equipment for access network
buildouts, last-mile fiber deployments, and backhaul infrastructure
across multiple continents, and we understand the certification and
documentation requirements that carrier procurement teams need
before a product can be approved for network deployment.
System Integrators and Project Contractors
Integrators need a supplier they can count on across the lifecycle
of a project — from initial specification through procurement,
installation, and post-deployment support. That means consistent
product availability, accurate lead times, technical documentation
that's actually complete, and a support team that can help
troubleshoot edge cases in the field rather than just pointing to
the manual.
We work with integrators on projects ranging from smart city
infrastructure and industrial automation to large-scale
surveillance deployments and campus network upgrades. Many of our
integrator relationships have lasted years, which we take as a
signal that we're getting those basics right.
Resellers and Distributors
Resellers succeed when the products they carry don't generate
warranty returns, support escalations, or customer complaints. Our
approach to quality control — ISO 9001 certified manufacturing,
rigorous incoming component inspection, and full product testing
before shipment — is designed to keep that failure rate low. We
also provide resellers with the technical documentation, product
training materials, and sales support they need to position Olycom
equipment accurately and confidently with their end customers.
Certifications and Compliance
Olycom products have been independently tested and certified across
a comprehensive set of regulatory and quality frameworks.
These include:
CE Marking — Conformity with European Union health, safety, and
environmental requirements, enabling product sale and distribution
throughout the EU and EEA markets.
RoHS Compliance — Restriction of Hazardous Substances
certification, confirming that our products meet EU limits on lead,
mercury, cadmium, and other restricted materials.
ISO 9001 Quality Management — Third-party certified quality
management system covering design, manufacturing, testing, and
delivery processes across our operations.
China Ministry of Communications Inspection — Formal inspection and
approval from China's primary telecommunications regulatory
authority, required for products deployed in Chinese carrier
networks.
China Ministry of Public Security Inspection — Approval from the
Ministry of Public Security for use in public security and
surveillance infrastructure — a requirement for video optical
converters deployed in government and law enforcement applications.
China Ministry of Information Industry Network Testing — Network
compatibility certification for fiber optic transceivers,
confirming interoperability with carrier infrastructure.
IP40 Protection Rating — Ingress protection certification for
industrial switch products, confirming resistance to solid particle
ingress in industrial environments.
