The diamond pads are reinforced with tungsten carbide inserts on
the leading edge, which reduces the erosion of matrix around the
diamonds by forcing the abrasive cuttings up the waterways and not
allowing it to travel across the face of the diamond pad.
In diamond core drilling jobs, a diamond drill bit is attached to
the end of hollow drill rods to cut a cylindrical core of solid
rock for examination on the surface, while a diamond reaming shell
or called reamer shell is designed to sit above the diamond drill
bit or high on the outer tube to ream the hole to the correct
constant specific diameters, reducing the possibility of stuck
tubes down the hole.
Reaming shell also acts as a stabilizer for diamond coring bits and
core barrel during the whole drilling operation, preventing
vibration and hole deviation. Helical type reaming shells provides
good passages for water flowing, the matrix is wear proof and its
service life is long.
