Cold rolled steel, sometimes abbreviated as CRS, is known for being an incredibly ductile material, which makes it perfect for precision applications. CRS is frequently used in making objects ranging from household appliances, furniture, lockers to filing cabinets. As for structural purposes, CRS is usually applied in constructions like garages, steel sheds and other industrial buildings.
CRS is cold rolled to achieve high precision. The desired level of hardness depends on how much the steel has been cold-worked, which is usually referred to as quarter-hard, half-hard and full-hard, respectively. As the hardness increases, it has to be noted that the corresponding yield point also increases, leading to a reduction in ductility. Quarter-hard steel can be bent back over itself without breaking, half-hard can be bent at a 90-degree angle, and full-hard can be bent at a 45-degree angle.
Cold rolled steel is often utilized in applications where the metal components must be bendable yet not prone to breaking.
